MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women’s tennis team had a successful day on the court in doubles play against Loyola Marymount and UT Martin, going 5-1 to begin the Memphis Invitational at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
“We are improving in doubles a lot, and we just have to keep doing the uncomfortable in-pressure situations,” said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. “Today was a good day and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
The Lady Tigers began the day facing LMU as freshmen Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko paired up for the first time this season, dominating April Bisharat and Kristine Kouyoumjian, 8-2. The No. 31 duo of Tiffany Welcher and Alyssa Hibberd picked up their first win of the season by taking down Reka Rohonyi and Tory Parravi, 8-4. Claudia Razzeto and Miya Jin handed Memphis its only loss of the day as Caroline Wegner and Kelly Gray fell to the LMU pair, 8-5.
Memphis went up against UT Martin immediately after its first round of doubles play as Kuykendall and Tymchenko cruised to an 8-1 victory over Florence Nicole and Jessica Silva. Welcher and Hibberd took down Johanie Van Zyl and Katie McCall, 8-2, while Wegner and Gray defeated Ivon Simic and Anna Marie Herbold, 8-3, to complete the sweep of the Skyhawks.
