MEMPHIS, Tenn. – On Friday night at FedExForum, the Tigers men’s and women’s hoops squads will give their fans a show at Memphis Madness, the annual season tip-off celebration. And, the University of Memphis Athletics Department is encouraging Tiger Nation to give as well – as in, give back with canned goods donations for the Kroger “The Million Meals Challenge” to benefit the Mid-South Food Bank and the Mississippi Food Network at Friday’s event.
Doors for Memphis Madness open at 5:30 p.m. (CT) Friday, and fans can donate canned goods as they enter FedExForum. University of Memphis student organizations will collect the items to support the Mid-South Food Bank.
The Kroger “The Million Meals Challenge” effort – which started prior to the start of the 2012 football season – is to provide one million meals for people in Western Tennessee and throughout Mississippi. The challenge will be fueled by significant involvement on and off campus, as well as through on-site collections at select Kroger stores in Memphis.
TheMillionMealsChallenge.com website provides the necessary details, and browsers that one can select their school to support when making a monetary donation from anywhere in the country. Monetary donations are made online, and food donations can be made at select Kroger locations.
