Memphis Women Dominate Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -The Memphis women’s tennis team wrapped up a dominant showing at the Memphis Invitational on Sunday as the Lady Tigers went 9-0 on the final day to move their overall record to 27-3 at the three-day tournament.

Memphis began the day facing Drake in doubles as the No. 31 team of Tiffany Welcher and Alyssa Hibberd easily defeated Jordan Eggleston and Evy Van Genechten, 8-2. Caroline Wegner and Kelly Gray defeated Nell Boyd and Maddie Johnson, 8-3, while Liza Tymchenko and Skylar Kuykendall won against Mariel Ante and Ali Patterson, 8-4.

The Lady Tigers faced UT Martin in singles to end the tournament as Hibberd dominated Anna Winkelmann, 6-0, 6-0 to start it off for Memphis. Kuykendall handed Jessica Silva a 6-1, 6-0 loss while Wegner took down Katie McCall, 6-1, 6-2. Also in action for the Lady Tigers was Gray, who defeated Florence Nicole, 6-1, 6-1, while Tymchenko cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ivon Simic. Welcher ended the day for Memphis, posting a 6-4, 6-4 win over Anna Marie Herbold.

The Lady Tigers will travel north next week when they compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in West Lafayette, Ind., from Oct. 18-21, before hosting their second fall tournament of the season on Nov. 2-4.
